Tailings Management Reports for Oil Sands Mining Schemes

Directive 085: Fluid Tailings Management for Oil Sands Mining Projects defines the tailings performance and reporting requirements for oil sands mining schemes. The annual operator tailings management reports and state of fluid tailings management performance reporting are available to the public through the AER website.
As specified in Directive 085, operators submit Tailings Management Reports for the previous year’s performance (January to December) to the AER on April 30 of each year. These annual operator fluid tailings management reports are made publicly available by May 31 of the submission year.
The AER publishes an annual report on the State of Fluid Tailings Management for Mineable Oil Sands by October 30 each year.
