EPEA Part 5 Substance Release

Frequency of Publication
Description

Routine disclosure of public documents (scientific and/or technical information, studies, reports, and records relating to the environmental condition of a site, including tests, assessments, delineation or remediation or any correspondence between the submitted and the Department) pursuant to Part 5 under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA).

If the operator has assessed the area of land or site and it meets Alberta Tier 2 soil and groundwater guidelines, and remediation is not required, they may apply for a Tier 2 compliance letter. If the operator has assessed the area of land or site and it meets Alberta Tier 1 or 2 soil and groundwater guidelines after remediation was completed, they may apply for a Remediation Certificate. Both options are voluntary.

Regulatory oversight of management of released substances is provided by Indian Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC) for sites on First Nation Reserve Lands and Canada Energy Regulator (CER) for activities within their jurisdiction. AER OneStop status of “accepted” does not imply acceptance of plans etc. by regulators with alternate jurisdiction. These regulators should be contacted directly with/for any necessary follow-up and information submissions/requests.
